Momo in Transylvania

Transylvania is really a beautiful place and this was exactly what I saw. Unfortunately, there were many stray dogs around. Some of them are quite aggressive. One dog which belongs to the villa which we stayed, was kind of like a ‘shepherd dog’, it was eyeing on me even I was on the second floor of the villa. When Jodee was holding me in her arms when we came down finally to get ready to go for a dinner, the dog actually came so near and even jumping to get near me at that height.

Jodee was totally scared and shocked that it did that! She quickly passed me to Zsolt (who is taller and braver) and he had to ask the owner of that dog to tell it to stay away.

Instinctively, Momo is always observing everything around him. He is a very curious little dog and other than using his sense of smell, he watches deeply. At times, he even feels and he could sense intuitively…we love him!

Dentastick (Pedigree)

About every month, Jodee will buy these Dentasticks for me. I love these Dentasticks, usually I will ‘brush’ my teeth with one of them by myself. In a way, it is like a ‘treat’ to me. Other than the regular grooming which I get every one or two weeks, I think dogs need to brush teeth so as to smell good in the breath!

Markies (Pedigree)

The other treat that I had been having since ten weeks old is the Pedigree Markies. They are so delicious and I will surely get one right after my ‘pee or poo’. Living in the downtown, I am normally guided by Jodee or Zsolt to do my ‘business’. When we used to live in a family house, I just do my business anywhere I like on the lawn.

That’s the lawn, you can see how Zsolt had to take care of it:

For the downtown, Jodee or Zsolt besides walking me, they need to pick up the poo. I think they are very considerate dog owners.

Of course on the Budapest street walk, there are dog owners who don’t pick up after their dog. Even though there are dog boxes with dog bags supplied. Sometimes, the dog bags ran out, but it is not an excuse since the dog owner has to bring with them some dog poo bags just in case. There are some sure to bring items when you walk your dog and this is one of them.

For longer distances, you must bring some water and a dish for your dog to quench its thirst. I am grateful when Jodee even bring along one of my favourite chew toys if the distance is further away from home. Or we will have to be there for more than three hours.

The first tram ride for a Havanese

I was rather calm for the first tram ride. However, the second time, I was more cuddly than before and I kept clinging on to Jodee. She held me in her arms. Before boarding, Zsolt was carrying me in his strong arms. I like when I am in Zsolt’s arms as he is much taller and I love being high up where I can have a better view This was taken at Petõfi híd budai hídfõ tram stop in Budapest.

Is Microchipping for dogs painful?

Dog (or even cat) microchipping is a simple procedure. My veterinarian simply injected a microchip for me in about 2 seconds. The microchip is the size of a grain of rice (12mm). So I had my permanent pet ID beneath the surface of my skin between the shoulder blades.

The process was similar to a routine shot, and I just made a little ‘squeak’ thinking it was a vaccination. No anesthetic was necessary.

Jodee read that the microchip itself has no internal energy source, so it will last my entire life.

My new vet is at the Andrassy ut. 81, we just took a few minutes walk to get there from where we live.

Basically the procedure were very standard. The vet did a test read of it by passing a microchip scanner over my shoulder blades. He did that once before injecting it and also after. The scanner emits a low radio frequency that provides the power necessary to transmit the microchips unique dog ID code and positively identify me.

Now Zsolt and Jodee will not risk losing me. I’m too adorable as their pet to get missing. Just that from this Thursday on, it is obligatory to microchip all pet dogs in Hungary. The timing for mine was just perfect while I have to go for my yearly vaccination for the Rabies and LEPTO and the DHHPi.

As usual, I was given a deworming tablet for which Jodee crushed and mixed them into my favourite chicken lunch

If you find any lost pet dogs (or even cats), simply bring it to an animal shelter or veterinarian, where they will scan the microchip to read its unique dog or cat ID code. This is the number used to identify the pet and retrieve its owner’s contact information, which is used to contact the owner and reunite him with his pet.

Momo’s second Duckie Chew toy

So, the first Duckie is gone. After two months, which is one of the longest lasting toy, Momo finally ripped out all the stuff in the first Duckie’s body, including its beeping mechanism.

You can imagine how he ran so proudly, grasping this second Duckie in his mouth!

Momo’s favourite toy: Duckie

This is one of Momo’s favourite toy so far. It is a chewing toy for dogs. It is named ‘Duckie‘.

Zsolt and Jodee always buy a new chew toy each time they passed by a pet shop. It is more about for the purpsoe of stimulation and to relief Momo from boredom.

There are several benefits of dog chew toys for Bison Havanese. One of which is that it assist in maintaining healthy teeth. The other is to teach and distract him from chewing other ‘forbidden’ items. Momo knows exactly which are his own chew toys and which are things belonging to his owners.

Momo particularly like the texture of this dog toy. He likes that it has this (yellow coloured) furry material on the back of its ‘body’ which he can try to bite on. He also like to chew the ‘legs’. The rope-like material that is so thick is ideal for him to chew. Momo likes to play ‘Fetch’ with Duckie. You simply have to throw it to a distance away from you, and Momo will run for it and picking it up with his mouth and running back to you immediately!

That how Momo plays with it. ‘Duckie’ makes a ‘squeak’ as it is also a squeaky toy which you can squeeze it to draw Momo’s attention indicating to start to play with him. He can play on his own with it and he simply enjoys it. He has some other rawhide chew toys too. For rubber variety, he normally bite them into small little pieces and scattered the bits everwhere. Still, his favourite is this ‘Duckie’

Momo at the Plitvice Lake in Croatia

Momo was really great at walking the entire distance at the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia. Yes, that is how beautiful the lakes are in Summer.

These waters are so refreshingly cool…good that from time to time, I can sip some fresh lake waters along the six hour walk!

And there were lots of wooden foot bridges like these… Some of them were challenging for the small legs of Momo as there are visibly little gaps between the wooden ‘stilts’. Looking through the gaps are exactly the running lake waters from the upper lakes flowing down to the lower lakes!

Momo’s Experience of a Pet-friendly Hotel in Zagreb Croatia

We arrived at noon, and the summer is scotching hot. Parked the car and had hoped to settle in the hotel. Was told the room booking was alright, but the room was not ready.

Waited and had three scoops of ice-cream near the Trg Bana Josipa Jelacica, the main square in Zagreb.

Checked into the hotel with a large King’s bed. Momo was catching his breadth on the coolness of the grey carpet. Rolling on it for a little bit and of course he drank lots of water to keep himself refreshed

Today, we saw the beautiful Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest with fresh new eyes.

On the lake are couples rowing boats and taking photos of the art on the lake. There were even ducks swimming freely on the lake. Nice outdoor place for the summer, a great place to chill on a weekend afternoon.
